patra paḍiyā prabhura mane haila duḥkha
bāhire hāsiyā kichu bale candra-mukha

Synonyms

patra—note; padiya—reading; prabhura—of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu; mane—in the mind; haila—became; duhkha—unhappiness; bāhire—externally; hāsiyā—smiling; kichu—something; bale—says; candra-mukha—the moon-faced. 

Translation

Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu became unhappy upon reading the note, although His face still shone as brightly as the moon. Thus, smiling, He spoke as follows.
